Sophie, Zhengze and Xiaoming attended 6th International Conference on Social Computing (ICSC'25), Shanghai
Established in 2019, the International Conference on Social Computing (ICSC) aims to ignite and advance collaborative research at the intersection of big data analytics and social science theory. Focused on fostering global partnerships, this conference seeks to bring together leading scholars and experts around the world, creating a unique environment for cross-cultural exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration.
ICSC 2025 was held in Shanghai, China during Dec. 12 – Dec. 13, 2025 and hosted by Fudan University. Sophie and Xiaoming were invited to a keynote speech each and Zhengze presented a paper at the conference. With over 150 participants from across the globe, the conference discussions suggest that social computing is shifting from isolated data mining to comprehensive, interdisciplinary integration. Computational thinking is becoming a foundational research tool in fields such as law, sociology, and journalism. At the same time, human-centered AI governance has emerged as a central theme, with focus moving beyond technical optimization toward algorithmic fairness, digital trust, ethical boundaries, and the broader societal impacts of technological evolution on social structures, collective emotions, and public health.
During the social event, the steering committee announced the next edition of ICSC will be held at Oxford University, tentatively set in the beginning of September 2026.
